Most newer developments have all the utility services underground, including electric and data. In older developments most of the electrical utilities are fed from overhead wiring. During larger renovations or additions, it is often possible to relocate the electrical services from overhead to underground. Unlike newer developments where the cost of underground wiring to the house is covered by the utility, the costs to switch to underground in an overhead area is the homeowner’s responsibility. Despite this cost, many customers doing larger renovations request switching to underground to eliminate the look of exposed wiring and to minimize damage from the weather.
